World PI Week 2025: Raising Voices, Building Awareness and Walking Together

World Primary Immunodeficiency Week 2025 was a meaningful opportunity to unite our community, elevate awareness, and spotlight the lived experiences of people living with primary immunodeficiencies (PI). Led by IDFA, the campaign connected thousands of Australians to powerful stories, resources, and opportunities to take action.

Here’s a recap of the highlights:

Digital Storytelling and Engagement

Our campaign hub served as a central destination for all World PI Week updates, including educational resources, donation links, and event details. A key highlight was the “Why PI” video series, created with support from IPOPI. These heartfelt stories from five members were shared widely, generating strong engagement and helping thousands understand the importance of PI awareness.

Tailored emails to healthcare professionals, government stakeholders, members, and partner organisations helped extend our message and deepen connections across audiences.

Stride for PI: A Movement for Change

Stride for PI brought our mission to life through action. Seven members pledged to walk throughout April, showing their support for people with PI. A community walk in Wollongong brought members together in person and attracted media attention.

Our GiveNow fundraising page raised over $1,200, and a dedicated WhatsApp group supported ongoing engagement and connection among our “IDFA Heroes.”

Amplifying Voices Through Media

Widespread media coverage helped amplify the message of World PI Week. WIN News, WaveFM, Region Illawarra, and Pulse Illawarra featured inspiring stories of individuals living with PI, as well as the community’s collective efforts to raise awareness.

These stories helped shine a light on the realities of living with a hidden condition and reached new audiences across the country.

Collaborating with Our Partners

IDFA worked with organisations including AusPIPS Inc., ASCIA, RVA, and Hidden Disabilities Sunflower to extend the campaign’s impact. Our inclusion in partner newsletters and social media significantly increased visibility and engagement.

We were proud to see one of our members, Adam, featured in the international World PI Week campaign. To thank participants, we distributed IDFA-branded sunflower lanyards, reinforcing the message of PI as a hidden disability, and celebrating our community’s efforts.

Resources and Learning

We launched a new Conversations” resource to support people with PI in discussing their condition with family, friends, healthcare professionals and workplaces. We also partnered with AusPIPS Inc. for a joint webinar, which attracted over 100 registrants and offered both expert knowledge and lived experience insights.

Thank You

World PI Week 2025 was a celebration of community, courage, and collective effort. We thank everyone who took part—our members, supporters, partners and media allies—for helping raise awareness and support for people living with primary immunodeficiencies across Australia.

Together, we are creating a stronger, more informed future for all.

Looking Ahead to 2026

Building on the success of World PI Week 2025, IDFA is excited to expand our efforts in 2026. We plan to grow Stride for PI into a broader, nationwide initiative with more community walks in multiple locations, offering even more opportunities for members to get involved. We’ll continue to amplify personal stories, strengthen partnerships, and explore new ways to engage our community through digital platforms, media, and fundraising. With the support of our dedicated members and partners, we look forward to reaching even more Australians and making a greater impact for those living with primary immunodeficiencies.
