This is me IDFA Young Adults Conference
Aims:
- Help young adult members (aged 17 to 30 years) create connections with members who are in the same stage of life.
- Empower young adult members to communicate their needs with themselves and those around them to live their best life.
- Identify holistic factors that can impact their health.
- Provide guidance with tips and tools in managing their health and life.
- Provide resources and services to support independence with their health journey.
What is the conference about:
- Hear from three IDFA Young adult members (from different states of Australia) who will share their own health journey experience and story.
- Participate in ice breaker activities to enable connections with those in the same life stage.
- Listen to three presentation topics from inspirational guest speakers, where attendee’s are given the opportunity to participate in Q&A sessions.
Guest presenters:
- Christina Irene, is an Invisible Conditions Speaker and Author. Christina Irene lives with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease, and irritable bowel syndrome. Since 2015, she has made it her purpose to be an advocate and a teacher for people with invisible conditions. She will speak on the importance of communicating with ourselves and those around us on our physical and emotional needs. She will talk about management of your health to enable more supportive relationships and tips in managing daily life.
- Dr Jane Ho, Paediatrician and Gretel Butler, Occupational Therapist Care Coordinator both work at the Trapeze Service in the Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick. Jane and Gretel will be joined by IDFA Young Adult Member Tanielle who will reflect on her own experiences during the presentation. The presentation will identify the differences with the child and adult health system, the importance of your health team, support services and communication.
- Amanda Jackson, is an accredited Practising Dietitian with expertise in the management of adult food allergies, intolerances, gastrointestinal diseases, kidney disease and immune disorders. She works in her own private practice and at the Royal Melbourne hospital where she is involved in resource development, teaching and training to both the dietetic and broader allergy community – with patients through to the multidisciplinary healthcare teams. She will speak about nutrition, the role diet plays in supporting your health and immunodeficiency and where to go if you need support.
- Smoothy Demonstration – Our nutritionist will also conduct a live smoothy demonstration where attendee’s will be given the opportunity to make their own smoothy during our afternoon tea break and share with us their thoughts.
