Its Rare Disease Day!
This story book gives some insight into what its like to have immunodeficiency. immunodeficiency is defined by a loss of antibodies or failure of antibody function. The decrease in antibodies causes the immune response to be deficient or absent, resulting in increased susceptibility to infection.
While not contagious, these diseases are caused by hereditary or genetic defects and can affect anyone, regardless of age or sex. Some affect a single cell within the immune system; others may affect one or more components of the system.
Please take a moment to learn a little bit more about immunodeficiency on our website www.idfa.org.au.
IDFA would like to thank all those who shared their stories this rare disease day.
